Additional literacy instruction emphasizes reading and writing upper and lower case letters through a letter of the week program, show and tell, a writing journal, and a homework folder for letter and number writing practice. The 4’s also begin to recognize environmental print.

Math instruction includes reading and writing numbers, using manipulatives, and creating seasonal counting books to support their math skills. Children participate in monthly science experiments, and create a remembrance book of special projects and activities completed throughout the year. These classes consist of up to 12-14 children, with a lead teacher and an assistant teacher. Extended Day 4’s classes allow for more time to expand on themes and for children to eat a packed lunch.

  • Pre-K, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 1-3:30 PM

This class focuses on preparing children for Kindergarten. Children who are close to the Kindergarten cut-off age but may need another year to build their confidence, independence, and social skills will thrive in our play-based Pre-K class!

Pre-K classes explore different themes and units than the 4’s class, and build on knowledge acquired in that class. Children continue to work on identifying and writing both upper and lower case letters, and learn how to write their first and last names with a beginning capital letter. A weekly homework journal and letter of the week program reinforce letter recognition, formation, and sounds. Children participate in literacy projects, and complete seasonal or thematic journals with their drawings and their stories scribed by the teacher. They learn their home phone numbers and addresses.

In math, students work on recognizing and writing numbers, and create several counting books throughout the year. Classes conduct weekly science experiments, observe nature, and complete a variety of activities across multiple subject areas that require following multi-step directions independently and using problem solving skills.
